Door locks & latches repair: key turning in a door lock
Carpenter30-day warranty included

Door locks & latches repair

Takes about 10 min

When a key turns hard or a latch misses its slot, the fault is often small. The carpenter removes the lock body, clears dust and old grease, checks the springs and lever, and refits it. If the latch is not meeting the strike plate, they shift the plate so the door catches without a slam.

The job takes about 10 minutes for a single lock and starts from the price shown on this page. If the lock is broken inside and needs replacing, the carpenter tells you first and you decide.

Keep every key for the lock, and if it is a main door lock, make sure someone can stay in while it is opened up.

What's included

  • Lock body removed, cleaned and checked
  • Latch and lever freed up and refitted
  • Strike plate realigned so the latch catches
  • Loose lock and handle screws tightened
  • 30-day warranty on the work done

What's not included

  • A replacement lock, cylinder or keys
  • Key cutting or opening a lock with no key

How the visit goes

  1. 1

    Test the key and latch

The carpenter turns the key and handle to see where the lock sticks.

  2. 2

    Open and clean

The lock body comes out and is cleaned of dust and dried grease.

  3. 3

    Realign the strike plate

If the latch misses, the strike plate is moved so it catches cleanly.

  4. 4

    Refit and test

The lock goes back in and is tested with every key you have.

What we need from you

  • All keys for the lock
  • Someone at home while a main door lock is open

Questions about this service

My key is stuck in the lock. Can you help?

The carpenter can usually free it by easing the cylinder and cleaning the lock. If the cylinder is damaged, you are told the options before any part is changed.

Do you open locks when the key is lost?

No. This job covers repairing a working lock you have keys for, not opening a locked door without a key.

Is a new lock included if mine cannot be fixed?

No. The lock itself is bought by you. You can then book Door lock replace/install to have it fitted.
