Door lock replace/install: brass lever handle on a wooden door
Carpenter30-day warranty included

Door lock replace/install

Takes about 15 min

Replacing a lock is mostly about a clean fit. The carpenter takes out the old lock, compares it with the new one, and widens or reshapes the cut-out in the door only as much as the new body needs. The strike plate on the frame is moved if required so the latch and bolt line up.

The fit takes about 15 minutes for a standard mortise or cylinder lock, from the price shown on this page. A lock that needs a fresh cut-out in a door with none is more work and is priced before starting.

Buy the lock in advance, keep its box and screws, and check the door thickness on the pack matches your door.

Questions about this service

Will a lock from any brand fit my door?

Most will, if the lock suits your door thickness. The carpenter checks this before cutting and tells you if the lock is the wrong size.

Do you bring the lock?

No. You buy the lock, or the carpenter can pick one up locally at actual cost if you approve it first.

What happens to the old lock?

It is handed back to you. Keep it as a spare or dispose of it as you prefer.
