A cot has to be rock solid and free of gaps where little fingers can catch. The carpenter assembles the ends and sides, sets the mattress base at the height you choose for your child's age, and checks every bolt is tight and every cap is in place. Side rails and wheels are tested so they lock as they should.

Keep the cot box and instruction sheet in the nursery, and have the cot mattress nearby so the carpenter can confirm it fits snugly with no wide gap at the edges.
