How the visit goes
- 1
Locate the blockage
The plumber checks whether other drains in the bathroom are slow, to tell a pan blockage from a line blockage.
- 2
Clear with hand tools
The plunger and auger are used to work the obstruction loose and pull it out where possible.
- 3
Escalate if needed
If the basic job will not clear it, the severe blockage work, a pressure machine or sewer line work is explained and quoted first, and you decide.
- 4
Flush and clean up
The toilet is flushed several times and the floor is wiped down.
What we need from you
- Stop flushing until the plumber arrives
- A bucket and old newspaper or cloth
- Note of anything you think went down, such as a toy or wipes
Questions about this service
Should I pour chemical cleaner down first?
Please do not. Strong chemicals can splash back while the plumber works and may damage older pipes.
What usually causes a toilet blockage?
Wet wipes, sanitary products, cotton and small objects. The plumber will tell you what was found if it comes out.
What if all the drains in my bathroom are blocked?
That points to a line blockage beyond the toilet. The plumber checks and quotes the extra work before starting.
When do I need the severe blockage option?
When plunging has not cleared it, or the water backs up again soon after. The pot is taken off, the line behind it is cleared and it is refitted with a new seal.
